Muster and pay rolls, 1858-1861.

Muster and pay rolls of three companies: 2nd regiment, Company I, at Fort Abercrombie, Dakota Territory, 31 Dec. 1860-28 Feb. 1861; 2nd regiment, Company K, at Fort Ripley, Minn., 31 Oct.-31 Dec. 1860; and Company G, a group of recruits for the 5th and 10th Regiments, en route to Utah, 1 May-13 June 1858. Lists for each man rank, place and date of enlistment, and amount of pay. Remarks include circumstances of entering and leaving the company, daily and extra duty, disciplinary measures, and pay stoppages. Commanding officers include Seth Eastman, Dixon S. Miles, and George Washington Patten; paymaster is Henry Prince.

Miles was born in Maryland. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1824 and was commissioned a brevet second lieutenant in the 4th U.S. Infantry regiment, but was transferred immediately to the 7th U.S. Infantry Regiment, with which he served until 1847.
